SPACE
Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions
SPACE is an evidence‑based, parent‑focused treatment developed at the Yale Child Study Center for children and adolescents with anxiety, OCD, and related problems. SPACE helps caregivers reduce accommodations, respond more effectively to their child’s anxiety, and support long‑term resilience — without requiring the child to participate directly in therapy. In treatment, parents learn how to make changes to their own behavior in a supportive manner, ultimately improving their child’s distress tolerance.
I am trained in SPACE and have advanced training in SPACE‑FTL (Failure to Launch), an approach designed to support parents of adult children who are struggling with independence. This treatment helps families foster the conditions that allow young adults to build autonomy, pursue educational goals, and move toward meaningful employment.
